UK Cuts Tariffs on 33 Offshore Wind Products to Zero

UK Scraps Tariffs on 33 Offshore Wind Products; Zero Rates Take Effect in April, Opening Export Window for China’s Supply Chain

On March 10, 2026, the UK Department for Business and Trade issued an announcement, specifying that import tariffs on 33 industrial products for offshore wind power manufacturing will be eliminated under the Authorised Use scheme starting from April 1, with zero tariffs directly applied to core components such as wind turbine blades and power cables. The adjusted product scope covers key parts across the entire offshore wind industrial chain, including wind turbine blades (original tariff rate: 6%), power cables (original tariff rate: 2%), and tower accessories. This policy aims to accelerate Europe’s clean energy transition and ease energy security pressures.

Europe is the world’s largest offshore wind power market, with an average planned annual investment of 660 billion euros from 2026 to 2030. However, Europe faces capacity bottlenecks in its local supply chain for segments such as submarine power cables, installation vessels and foundational manufacturing. Its costs are 20%-40% higher than China’s, and project execution cycles are over 30% longer. Boasting a complete full industrial chain for offshore wind power, China enjoys remarkable advantages in cost and efficiency. The UK’s tariff removal will further cut export costs for Chinese enterprises, and is expected to drive a more than 50% growth in China’s exports of offshore wind power products. Freight forwarders and supply chain enterprises specializing in wind power equipment on the 5688 Logistics platform are embracing significant opportunities.
