CMA CGM: Panama Canal will charge more surcharges!

Recently, CMACGM issued an announcement to inform its customers that the Panama Canal continues to suffer from severe drought. Therefore, the Panama Canal Authority recently announced further restrictive measures. 

In the second quarter of 2023, despite a number of water-saving measures, the draft of the Panama Canal was reduced from 14.94 meters to 13.41 meters. Lack of precipitation in summer forced Panama Canal authorities to reduce the number of ships crossing the border every day.

As a result, the booking window will be reduced by 30 percent by 1 January 2024. These restrictions, combined with the canal tariff hike imposed earlier this year, have had a serious impact on CMA CGM operations.

Therefore, please note that CMACGM will implement the $150/TEU Panama Canal Surcharge from January 1,2024.
