Australia's retail sales increased by 0.5% in July
Australia's unexpectedly strong rebound in retail sales in July showed that consumption remained resilient even after the RBA raised interest rates 12 times.
Data released recently by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed retail sales rose 0.5 percent month-on-month in July, above expectations of 0.3 percent. The increase was driven by the non-food sector. "July's growth was driven by increased spending on meals and takeaways related to the 2023 Women's World Cup and school holidays," said Ben Dorber, head of retail statistics at the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
