International Business Newsletter-Thailand prohibits the sale of such products!

Emergency off the shelf! Thailand prohibits the sale of such products!

Thailand's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a ban on the sale of wax sugar products mainly imported from China and sold through online platforms. It warned that such foods are illegal in Thailand and recently instructed platforms such as Lazada and Shopee to stop selling them.

FDA spokeswoman Narong Aphikulvanich said not removing such "illegal products" from the platform could result in fines of up to 30,000 tetras. Searches for the "candy wax" on popular online shopping platforms such as Lazada and Shopee show they are no longer available.

Many consumers and social media users have expressed concern about the popularity of these colored wax candies, saying they could be dangerous to children because the wax part of the product is inedible. The candies usually come in different shapes and contain fruity syrup.

FDA Veerachai Nalawachai said the wax is inedible and should not be swallowed. He also said wax candies sold online do not have Thai food labels, so consumers do not know details about the production process or whether they are safe to eat.

"So people shouldn't eat it." he warned, adding that the FDA will strictly enforce the law against anyone who sells wax candy without permission.

       FDA Veerachai Nalawachai
