India: Extend sugar export restrictions!

On October 18th, India's General Administration of Foreign Trade (DGFT) announced , the export restrictions of all sugar categories in India had been extended beyond October 31st.

"This restriction does not apply to sugar exported to the EU and the US under CXL and TRQ quotas in accordance with the procedures set out in their respective announcements," the notice said.

India, the world's second-largest sugar exporter, placed sugar in the restricted export category last year until Oct. 31,2023"to prevent uncontrolled sugar exports and to ensure there is enough sugar for domestic consumption at reasonable prices." India allowed only 6.1 million tonnes of sugar in the quarter ending Sept. 30, compared with a record 11.1 million tonnes in the last crop year.

It is known that India was once the world's largest sugar producer and the world's second largest sugar exporter. India's sugar export policy has a certain impact on the trend of global sugar market prices.
