Egypt: Suspend tariffs on some necessities for six months!

According to the North African Post, Egyptian Prime Minister MostafaMadbouly recently announced that the government has decided to suspend tariffs on various basic commodities for six months from Saturday (October 21st) to curb inflation.

At a news conference that day, Madbouli said prices for seven basic commodities would be reduced by 15 to 25 percent. According to Pyramid Online, these include beans, dairy products, white cheese, mixed oil, pasta, jelly beans, poultry products, eggs and rice.

Madbouli said that this measure will have a positive impact on the supply of necessities and market stability, and prevent inflation, especially food prices.

In addition, Trade and Industry Minister Ahmed Samir, who attended the news conference, said the government would seek to further simplify the procedures for the release of imported goods from ports. Egypt's cabinet recently issued a statement saying that in the first nine months of this year, Egyptian ports released $53.7 billion in imported goods.
