Russia Attacks Two Ukrainian Ports in Odesa

Russia Attacks Two Ukrainian Ports in Odesa, Killing 2 and Injuring Several, Damaging Shipping Facilities

Since the New Year, Russia has launched its first attack on the port complex in the Odesa region of Ukraine. On January 7, the Port of Chornomorsk was hit by a drone strike, which ignited a fire in the vegetable oil tank storage area and injured at least two people. The Port of Pivdennyi came under missile attack, with infrastructure, administrative buildings and equipment destroyed, ultimately resulting in 2 deaths and several injuries. Containers and trucks at the port also suffered extensive damage.

Earlier, the Odesa region was attacked on New Year's Day, and the terminals and equipment at the Port of Izmail on the Danube River were also damaged. Since December 2025, when Putin stated that he would retaliate for the attacks on shadow fleet tankers and threatened to cut off Ukraine's access to the Black Sea, Russia has stepped up strikes on Ukrainian ports. In 2025, the Odesa seaport area was attacked 96 times, nearly tripling the number of attacks compared with 2024.
