Venezuela Shipping Routes Remain Operational Amid Recent Turmoil
Major container shipping lines including CMA CGM and Maersk have confirmed that their services to and from Venezuela are running smoothly, unaffected by the recent U.S. military actions and the detention of President Nicolás Maduro.
CMA CGM stated in a customer advisory that its operations in Venezuela are proceeding as normal, with fully loaded containers being discharged at ports on schedule and no disruptions expected for vessels en route.
Maersk, the world’s second-largest container shipping company, noted that while its local offices in Venezuela have been closed, its team is working remotely to ensure service continuity. "Our top priorities are safety, uninterrupted service, and full compliance. Operations will continue as long as safety and operational conditions permit," the company emphasized.
According to industry analyst Alphaliner, besides CMA CGM and Maersk, several other carriers are also maintaining their Venezuela-bound routes, including Caribbean Feeder Service, Fjord Havn Feeders, MSC, Unifeeder, X-Press Feeders, and Zim.
Tracking data from PurpleTrac by Pole Star Global shows that the Singapore-flagged vessel Maersk Cap Carmel has successfully arrived at Puerto Cabello—Venezuela’s largest container port, located 210 kilometers west of Caracas.
Despite years of sanctions and political-economic instability, Venezuela accounts for a negligible share of the global container shipping market. Alphaliner reports that only one-thousandth of the world’s 36.7 million TEU container fleet is deployed to the country, adding that the current situation will have very limited impact on the global liner shipping industry beyond routes directly linked to Venezuela.
