Korea Hyundai Heavy Industries Labor Negotiation Stopped

South Korea's HD Hyundai Heavy Industries union has launched a third partial strike amid fears that the strike has caused delays in the delivery of a large number of new ships amid an already severe labor shortage.

On September 4, the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries union held a two-hour partial strike in the afternoon. It was the third partial strike since August 31 and September 1. The union warned that after the partial strike, it would hold an indefinite general strike from September 6 if the collective salary agreement negotiations failed to make progress.

Up to now, among the three major shipping enterprises in South Korea, HD Hyundai Heavy Industry, Hyundai Sanhu Heavy Industry and HD Korea Shipbuilding Ocean, the holding parent company of Hyundai Weipu Shipbuilding, are the only enterprises that have not reached a collective salary agreement with the trade union this year.
