COSCO SHIPPING Ports has acquired 12.5% and 30% equity interests in Thailand's Laem Chabang Terminal (TLT) and Hutchison Laem Chabang Terminal (HLT), respectively.
The signing ceremony was held in Vietnam on October 23rd.
The consideration for this acquisition is approximately US $110 million, which includes TLT berths A2, HLT berths A3, C1-C2 and D1-D3, of which the D1-D3 part is under construction. Once all facilities are fully completed and operational, the total annual capacity will reach approximately 6.7 million TEUs.
TLT and HLT are the largest terminal operators in Laem Chabang Port, which is located in the southeast of Bangkok, Thailand, about 60 nautical miles from Bangkok Port. It is the largest deep-water port in Thailand and the most important international container hub port, with a throughput of approximately 80% of the country's total throughput.
The port operations department of COSCO Group said in an announcement: "With the Thai government actively supporting the development of Laem Chabang Port, infrastructure projects such as Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor will continue to develop and grow."
Currently, Laem Chabang Port is the main port of call for COSCO Shipping Container Lines dual brands in Thailand.
COSCO Group stated that this acquisition will be conducive to further developing economic and trade relations between China and Thailand, and is also expected to support COSCO Shipping Ports in optimizing port resource layout and deepening port and shipping coordination.
