DHL International Express's second quarter results reach 20.6 billion euros

DHL International Express's second quarter results reached 20.6 billion euros (DHL's profitability has been structurally improved)

Recently, DHL Group announced its results for the second quarter of 2024, and its performance was in line with market expectations. Despite the continued weak economic environment, the group's revenue was still slightly higher than the same period last year, reaching 20.6 billion euros, compared with 20.1 billion euros in the second quarter of 2023.

As expected, earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) were lower than the level of the same period last year at 1.35 billion euros and 1.7 billion euros in the second quarter of 2023, but significantly higher than the level of 769 million euros in the second quarter of 2019, indicating that the group's profitability has been structurally improved.

The relevant person in charge of DHL Group said that in the second quarter, air and sea cargo volumes further increased from a low starting point, but have not yet seen a broad recovery in global trade. The B2B cargo volume of the group's express business unit improved slightly, but did not show a significant acceleration, which indicates that the network utilization rate of the express delivery business has not yet reached the optimal level.

However, due to the balanced management of cost and capacity, DHL Group still maintains good operations even in the weak economic environment.

In terms of the performance of the Group's business units, although B2B cargo volumes increased slightly, DHL Express cargo volumes overall declined as previously expected. The business unit responded to the weak economic environment by improving productivity, optimizing the network and continuing revenue and cost management.

In the second quarter, fixed asset investment expenditures (CapEx) totaled 633 million euros, compared with 708 million euros in the same period last year. Based on the global economic situation, DHL Group continued to focus on ensuring profitability and cash flow, and focused fixed asset expenditures on e-commerce, Areas showing structural growth trends such as sustainable development and digitalization.
