Hong Kong International Airport Becomes World's Busiest Cargo Airport
The Hong Kong Airport Authority announced on the 15th that Hong Kong International Airport will be named the world's busiest cargo airport in 2023. This is the 13th time that Hong Kong International Airport has been selected as the world's busiest cargo airport since 2010.
It is reported that the latest data released by Airports Council International on the same day shows that Hong Kong International Airport will handle 4.3 million tons of cargo in 2023. In terms of total cargo volume, it will once again be selected as the busiest cargo airport in the world. The efficient operation and high-quality service of Hong Kong International Airport also reflect Hong Kong's status as an important logistics hub in the world.
To ensure that HKIA has sufficient capacity to meet its long-term needs, the third runway system is being expanded. It is expected that the airport will be able to handle 10 million tons of cargo per year when the project is completed. The third runway system is targeted to be completed by the end of this year. By then, the three runways will be in operation at the same time.
At the same time, Hong Kong International Airport has also launched a brand-new sea-air intermodal cargo mode to further strengthen the coordination and cooperation of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Under this mode, mainland export goods can complete security checks, boards, Receiving goods and other services, and then transporting them to Hong Kong International Airport by sea, and then transporting them to all parts of the world; International goods can also be imported into the mainland through the same process.

香港机场管理局15日公布,香港国际机场荣膺2023年全球最繁忙货运机场,这是香港国际机场自2010年以来第13次获选为全球最繁忙货运机场。
据悉,国际机场协会当日发表最新数据显示,香港国际机场2023年处理的货运量达430万吨,按总货运量计,再度获选为全球最繁忙货运机场。这一成绩的取得,不仅体现了香港国际机场的高效运营和优质服务,也反映了香港作为全球重要物流枢纽的地位。
为确保香港国际机场具备足够运力应付长远需求,机场现正扩建第三跑道系统,预计项目落成启用后,机场每年将可处理1000万吨货物。第三跑道系统目标于今年底完成,届时三条跑道将同时运作。
与此同时,香港国际机场还推出崭新的海空联运货运模式,进一步加强粤港澳大湾区的协同合作。在该模式下,内地出口货物可于上游的“香港国际机场东莞空港中心”完成安检、打板、收货及其他服务,然后经海路运送至香港国际机场,再转运至世界各地;国际货物也可经同样的流程进口内地。
