Singapore International Shipping Company Joins DCSA
Singapore container liner Pacific International Shipping (PIL) has joined the nonprofit Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) to drive standardization and digital innovation in the container shipping industry. PIL and DCSA will collaborate to develop, calibrate and validate digital standards to improve industry-wide adoption.
The founding members of DCSA include 9 of the world's top 10 container shipping companies, accounting for about 70% of global container trade. The association was established to accelerate digitization by simplifying and harmonizing data standards to create an interoperable framework that reduces friction, costs, and better customer experience.
DCSAs aims to address needs such as paperless trade, cargo visibility, port call optimization, and equipment management. They will also improve the ease of communication and transactions between regulators, banks, insurance companies, carriers, customers, and stakeholders involved in international trade transactions.
PIL has been pursuing a wide range of digitization initiatives, including the implementation of electronic bills of lading to reduce delivery times, improve operational efficiency, and provide a seamless experience for customers. eBL makes document creation, approval, distribution, and tracking easier, while reducing potential fraud and eliminating the risk of paper documents being lost during transportation.
Lars Kastrup, CEO of PIL, said:"PIL has been actively pursuing its digitization initiative, and we are pleased to join DCSA to accelerate our journey while improving the industry's digital capabilities. Digitization improves efficiency, reduces costs, and reduces our carbon footprint., and streamlines transactions for all stakeholders."
DCSA CEO Thomas Bagge said:"PIL's engagement is another important milestone as we continue to digitize the container shipping industry. Over the past five years, DCSA and its members have created a digital foundation that enables the industry to Improve customer experience, reduce costs, and help the industry shift to a more sustainable future."
