Singapore Shipping Association releases International Maritime Network Security Scorecard

The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), an industry association advocating the interests of more than 500 ship-owning, operating and maritime service companies in Singapore, recently released the Maritime SG Shipping Network Security Scorecard.

Developed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) in collaboration with industry experts, the initiative enables shipowners, managers and operators to conduct self-assessment through an online portal (www.scissor.sg) to assess the cybersecurity readiness of their fleet operations.

In addition, using the established components of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework-Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recovery-the scorecard provides a standardized language and systematic approach. This enables maritime companies of all sizes to fully grasp, monitor, and reduce cybersecurity risks associated with ship operations.

During the pilot phase, more than 30 maritime companies, including OSM home, Pacific International Shipping, PCL and BW Group, conducted self-assessments. Over time, SSA will analyze anonymous data to discern patterns across the industry and provide participating companies with a benchmark tool to compare themselves with their peers.

"In order to maintain Singapore's position as a hub for reliable and resilient offshore operations, the industry must strengthen its cybersecurity posture. The scorecard is the basis for any company to plan and take long-term measures to improve its level of cybersecurity readiness." said T S Teo, chairman of the SSA Digitization Committee.
