Dubai World Port Company will cooperate with Brazilian railway operators

Multinational logistics company DP World has revealed plans to build and operate a new food and fertilizer terminal in Brazil's Port of Santos in partnership with Brazilian rail operator Rumo.

The new facility is expected to cost $500 million and can handle 9 million tons of grain and 3.5 million tons of fertilizer annually. The bulk terminal was built following DP World's investment in container handling facilities at the port, increasing the length of the terminal from 1,100 meters to 1,300 meters and increasing throughput by nearly 20 percent.

The 30-month dry bulk construction project will be financed through a combination of rail company resources, loans and a strategic partnership. The partner says the project will have no impact on existing port activities. Dubai Global Ports will provide Rumo with a terminal area on the port's left bank, while taking responsibility for port operations and services.

The Santos project will solidify the port's position as one of the country's largest and most advanced multi-purpose terminals. Cargo volumes hit a record high in January, handling nearly 12 million tonnes of cargo, a significant increase from the same period last year.

The project will be Dubai Global Port Group's fourth round of investment since it began operations in Brazil in 2013. Last year, the company spent $35 million to modernize facilities, including electrifying rubber-tyred gantry cranes. Now, the company will continue its decarbonization strategy by introducing 21 new equipment and adopting technologies that reduce emissions and other pollutants.

       新设施预计耗资5亿美元，每年可处理900万吨谷物和350万吨化肥。该散货码头是继DP World对港口集装箱装卸设施进行投资之后建造的，将码头长度从1100米增加到1300米，并将吞吐量提高了近20%。

      这个为期30个月的干散货建设项目将通过铁路公司的资源、贷款和战略合作伙伴关系的组合来融资。该合作伙伴表示，该项目不会对现有的港口活动产生影响。迪拜环球港务公司将向鲁莫提供港口左岸的终端区，同时承担港口运营和服务的责任。

       桑托斯项目将巩固该港口作为该国最大和最先进的多用途码头之一的地位。1月份货运量创历史新高，处理了近1200万吨货物，较去年同期大幅增长。

       该项目将是迪拜环球港务集团自2013年开始在巴西运营以来的第四轮投资。去年，该公司斥资3500万美元对设施进行现代化改造，包括对橡胶轮胎式龙门起重机进行电气化改造。现在，该公司将继续其脱碳战略，引进21台新设备，采用减少排放和其他污染物的技术。
