Canadian Systems Group spent $90 million to acquire OCR Company of the US
Canada-based Descartes Systems Group, a major player in connecting the global commercial logistics business, announced the acquisition of U.S.-based OCR Services (OCR), a global provider of trade compliance solutions and content, for about $90 million.
OCR focuses on providing solutions and content for export compliant and controlled goods, helping customers simplify and automate processes related to rejected party screening, license procurement/management and product classification.
"The OCR team brings to Descartes a wealth of expertise in global trade compliance, including experience in leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in content management. By adding OCR solutions and content to our global logistics network, we see opportunities to bring new features and enhanced content to customers and partners around the world," said Andrew Rothko, chief commercial officer of Descartes.
According to the statement, the core platform, GlobalEASE, is used by blue chip multinational organizations around the world to ensure compliance with evolving regulations. Like Descartes, OCR monitors regulatory updates and enriches its transaction data content repository on a daily basis. The addition of OCR controlled export data is expected to enhance Descartes' extensive global trade content repository, benefiting customers and partners such as SAP and Oracle.
