Turkey's international shipping port ushered in a milestone

Recently, Turkey's main container terminal, Mersin International Port (MIP), celebrated an important milestone, with a throughput of more than 25 million TEUs since its inception. The commemoration was held at Terminal 1 of the Eastern Mediterranean Hub in Mersin, with the participation of partners, customers, government officials and industry associations.

MIP was originally established in 2007 as a partner of PSA International and Akfen, and IFM Investors joined as the third shareholder in 2017. Since its establishment, MIP has experienced steady growth, with an average annual increase of 14.4% in container volume. In 2023 alone, MIP managed about 2 million TEUs.

In order to meet the changing needs of customers, MIP is investing 455 million US dollars in the East Med Hub 2 (EMH2) expansion project. The second phase of EMH2 started construction in November 2023 and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

The total length of the expanded wharf will increase by 380 meters to 880 meters, with a draft of 17.5 meters. It can berth two super-large container ships (ulcv) with a length of more than 400 meters at the same time, and the capacity of the port will increase from 2.6 million TEUs to 3.6 million TEUs.

In addition, the project also includes the purchase of eight new automatic rail gantry cranes (armg) and four additional ship-to-shore cranes. Through continuous investment in power equipment and renewable energy, MIP aims to cut its carbon emissions by half by 2030 and be carbon neutral by 2050.

土耳其国际海运港口迎来里程碑时刻

       近日，土耳其主要集装箱码头梅尔辛国际港(MIP)庆祝了一个重要的里程碑，自成立以来，该港口的吞吐量超过了2500万标准箱。纪念活动在梅尔辛的东地中海枢纽1号航站楼举行，合作伙伴、客户、政府官员和行业协会参加了纪念活动。

       MIP最初成立于2007年，是PSA国际和Akfen的合作伙伴，IFM投资者于2017年作为第三个股东加入，自成立以来，MIP经历了稳定的增长，平均每年增长14.4%的集装箱量。仅在2023年，MIP就管理了大约200万标准箱。

       为了满足客户不断变化的需求，MIP正在投资4.55亿美元的East Med Hub 2 (EMH2)扩建项目。EMH2二期工程于2023年11月开始建设，预计于2025年第一季度完工。

       扩建后的码头总长度将增加380米，达到880米，吃水17.5米，可以同时停泊两艘长度超过400米的超大型集装箱船(ulcv)，港口的容量将从260万标准箱增加到360万标准箱。

       此外，该项目还包括购买8台新的自动轨道式龙门起重机(armg)和4台额外的船到岸起重机。通过对电力设备和可再生能源的持续投资，MIP的目标是到2030年将其碳排放量减少一半，到2050年实现碳中和。
