The import and export of all ports in Finland has stagnated
Finnish industrial, logistics and power workers have agreed to extend the strike to a fourth week to protest planned labor market reforms, the president of the Finnish trade union association SAK said on Wednesday, Reuters reported.
The newly announced strike is scheduled to start at 06:00 on April 1(in line with the expected end time of the current two-week strike) and will end at 06:00 on April 8.
"We are trying to negotiate and compromise with the government, but unfortunately these efforts have not been answered," said Jarkko Eloranta, SAK president. The union stressed that it is willing to suspend the strike if the government understands employees' concerns.
The strike has a wide range, and the business of ship loading and unloading, container delivery and delivery has been completely stopped. At the same time, air and land logistics will also be affected, and the impact will last until April 8.
About 7,000 Finnish union members, including dockers and industrial workers, are taking part in the shutdown, which has brought Finland's import and export business to a near total standstill.
That means container operations at Finland's major ports, including Helsinki, Kotka, Turku and Lauma, will be suspended for another week. Container terminal operators say the backlog will still take days to clear even if dockers return to their posts.
