ANA postponed its acquisition plan for the third time
All Nippon Airways (ANA) has postponed plans to buy cargo carrier Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA) for a third time as regulators continue to review the deal.
The company said in the latest update:"Taking into account the time when the relevant Japanese and foreign authorities completed the business merger review of the share exchange, the company decided to change the effective date of the share exchange from April 1,2024 to July 1,2024。”
The cargo airline is currently owned by shipping group NYK, which is seeking to transfer its ownership to ANA due to the cost and expertise required to operate an airline.
NYK said:"Continuous introduction of new aircraft to expand the operation and maintenance system, as well as continuous training of personnel engaged in operation and maintenance, requires considerable expenditure. In the highly unstable business environment of air cargo, NCA has been faced with the challenge of expanding the business scale at a level commensurate with these costs."
NCA currently operates eight B747-8 cargo planes and has five B747-400 cargo planes operated by ASL and Atlas Airways. ANA said the acquisition will greatly enhance its international air cargo network and Japan-based products and services.
