International shipping freight dropped by nearly 22%

The latest Shanghai Export Container Freight Index (SCFI) fell another 2.28 percent to 1,732.57, a six-week downward trend, with a cumulative decline of nearly 22 percent. Nevertheless, freight rates rose 71 percent compared with those seen during the Red Sea crisis in December.

Affected by multiple factors such as the Red Sea crisis and carbon emissions, the shipping costs of European routes and Mediterranean routes have been rising, but this week's decline has narrowed to 1.42% and 3.02%, respectively. In contrast, the US-West route fell by 4.1% and the US-East route fell by 7.81%, making it the only route with expanded decline.

Facing the upcoming expiration date of the long-term contract of the US line (April 30th), in order to sign a more favorable long-term contract price and stabilize the basic market, shipping companies have taken measures such as reducing the number of classes and regulating the shipping space, so as to alleviate the downward pressure of freight rates and expect the demand to gradually recovery.

According to SCFI's latest week's quotation data, the freight rate per 20-foot cabinet on the Shanghai-Europe route is 1943 US dollars, down 28 US dollars, with a weekly decline of 1.42%; Mediterranean routes per 20-foot container freight rate of $2,887, down $90, a weekly decline of 3.02 percent.

The freight rate per 40-foot cabinet from Shanghai to the United States is 3,621 US dollars, down 155 US dollars, with a weekly decline of 4.10%; To the United States for each 40-foot cabinet quoted $4842, down $410, a weekly drop as high as 7.81 percent.

       最新一期上海出口集装箱运价指数(SCFI)再次下跌2.28%，降至1732.57点，这已是连续六周的下滑趋势，累计跌幅接近22%。尽管如此，与去年12月红海危机时的运价相比，仍然保持着71%的涨幅。

       欧洲航线和地中海航线受到红海危机和碳排放等多重因素的影响，航运成本不断攀升，但本周跌幅有所收窄，分别为1.42%和3.02%。相比之下，美西航线周跌4.1%，美东航线更是周跌7.81%，成为跌幅扩大的唯一航线。

       面对即将到来的美线长约到期日（4月30日），船公司为了签订更有利的长约价格并稳定基本盘，纷纷采取减并班、调控舱位等措施，以缓解运价下跌压力，并期待需求能够逐步回升。

       据SCFI最新一周的报价数据，上海至欧洲航线的每20尺柜运价为1943美元，下跌28美元，周跌幅为1.42%；地中海航线的每20尺柜运价为2887美元，下跌90美元，周跌幅为3.02%。

       而上海至美西的每40尺柜运价为3621美元，下跌155美元，周跌幅为4.10%；至美东的每40尺柜报价为4842美元，下跌410美元，周跌幅高达7.81%。
