Pay attention to shipment! Israeli ports were attacked by Houthi armed forces

Recently, the southern port of Eilat, Israel, has been in an unprecedented predicament due to the continuous attacks by Houthi armed forces.  A large number of shipping companies have changed their routes due to security concerns and no longer choose to dock here, resulting in almost stagnant port business and increasingly serious financial problems.

According to the Israel Times, in December last year, Gideon, CEO of Eilat Port, revealed that since Houthi armed forces began to attack ships in the Red Sea, the number of sailing ships in the port has greatly decreased, with a drop of 85%.

As one of the important ports in Israel, Eilat Port mainly undertakes the business of importing vehicles and exporting potash fertilizer. However, under the continuous threat of Houthi armed forces, these businesses have almost stagnated. Data show that in 2023, the port also imported 149,000 vehicles, but since 2024, this number has plummeted to 0.

Last Wednesday, the Israel Federation of Trade Unions revealed a shocking news: the management of Eilat Port planned to lay off half of its employees. This news quickly caused strong protests and dissatisfaction among employees. Employees have expressed that they do not want to be innocent victims of the conflict and hope that the government can take measures to protect their rights and jobs.

Faced with such difficulties, the Israeli government is also aware of the seriousness of the problem. They are actively seeking solutions, including strengthening port security measures and negotiating with shipping companies to resume routes. At the same time, the government is also trying to provide assistance and job transfer opportunities for unemployed employees to alleviate their economic pressure.
