Argentina port and Hamburg port will sign a letter of intent

The Port of Argentina in Canada and the Port of Hamburg (HPA) in Germany signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to cooperate on the import and export of green hydrogen from Canada to Germany. The agreement was signed by Scott Penney, CEO of Port Argentina, and Jens Meier, CEO of HPA, during their attendance at the Canada-Germany Hydrogen and Ammonia Production-Processing Conference in Hamburg.

This conference is an important part of Canada-Germany Energy Partnership and Hydrogen Energy Alliance, aiming at promoting cooperation between the two countries in exporting clean Canadian hydrogen to Germany.

By signing the letter of intent, the two ports are aligned with the mandate of the Canadian and German governments to establish an energy partnership. The cooperation aims to reduce emissions, accelerate the transition to cleaner fuels and promote a greener economy, which is in line with the joint declaration of intent of the two countries to establish the Gard Hydrogen Energy Alliance.

Under the agreement, the two ports will work to build a strong supply chain for green hydrogen derivatives. The Argentine port, in partnership with Pattern Energy, is involved in the Argentine Renewable Energy Project, which aims to produce 300 megawatts of wind energy for green hydrogen production. The letter of intent provides a framework for cooperation to promote the production, distribution and utilization of green hydrogen derivatives.

"The ports of Argentina and Hamburg agree that there is an urgent need for an offshore supply chain for green hydrogen and its derivatives. This new supply chain requires close cooperation and collaboration between import and export ports. As future production and consumption locations, both ports have unique products that can be shared in a mutually beneficial way," Jens Meier commented.
