Chinese liner docked at 20,000 TEU ships in Italian ports for the first time



COSCO Shipping plans to send 20,000 TEU ships to visit Las Pecia port regularly. The upcoming arrival of COSCO Aries marks the first time that a Chinese liner has docked with such a large container ship in an Italian port.


Starting in March, COSCO 20000teu container ships will establish a stable presence at the port of Las Pecia. The Chinese liner company recently announced plans to bring four of these ships into the Asian Mediterranean Service (AEM1) rotation.


The length of each ship is about 400 meters, which is impressive. As the shipping industry adapts to new norms and requirements, including the necessity of sailing in Africa, this strategic decision reflects the changing pattern of maritime transportation.


As a result, two new stand-alone loops will be introduced in the Mediterranean to accommodate the deployment of larger-capacity container ships.


"We are proud and ready to welcome COSCO Shipping Aries, the first of a series of super-large container ships deployed by Chinese carriers in AEM1 (MED1) service operated within Ocean Alliance. Our terminal has proved its ability to handle this type of container ship, thus reaffirming our commitment to meet every demand and provide excellent service expected by customers," said Matteo Ferrando, principal account manager of Kangshi Italy.
