The world's two most important shipping channel issued new regulations

Suez Canal and Panama Canal are the two most important shipping arteries in the world. Recently, the two canals have issued new regulations one after another. What impact will the new regulations have on navigable vessels?

On the 11th, the Panama Canal Authority announced that it would adjust the daily number of ships passing from the current 24 to 27. On the 18th of this month, the number of ships passing first increased to 26, and on the 25th, it increased to 27. It is reported that this is the Panama Canal Authority's analysis of the current and expected levels of Caton Lake.

Due to the prolonged drought caused by El Nino, the Panama Canal, as a transoceanic waterway, began to implement water-saving measures in July last year, reducing the traffic volume of ships and reducing the depth of the waterway. The canal has gradually reduced the traffic volume of ships for several months, once dropping to 18 ships per day.

In addition, on the 12th local time, Suez Canal Authority announced that it had decided to levy an extra fee of 5,000 US dollars on ships that refused or could not accept mooring services from May 1st.

The agency also announced new fees for mooring and lighting services, which will charge a total of $3,500 per passing vessel for fixed mooring and lighting services. If a passing vessel requests lighting services or the lighting does not comply with navigation regulations, the lighting service fee in the preceding paragraph will be increased by $1,000, totaling $4,500.
