Panama Canal Authority will increase daily traffic

On March 12th, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announced that it would increase the number of ships passing through every day.

It is reported that due to the recent continuous rainfall, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has added three additional positions to its Panama lock, and the daily maximum traffic volume has increased from 24 to 27.

While the increased daily maximum is still more than 10 less than the normal maximum, it means the record drought that has plagued the canal since last June is being eased.

The Panama Canal can pass through up to 40 ships a day at full capacity. Previously, the Panama Canal Authority cut the maximum draft of its larger locks while cutting daily crossings.

It is reported that as of 3:00 on March 12,47 ships were waiting to pass through the canal, far lower than the peak of more than 160 ships in August last year. The waiting time for northbound passage through the canal is not scheduled to be 0.4 days, and the waiting time for southbound passage through the canal is 5 days.
