Vietnam International Shipping Container Ship Sank

On March 10, a Vietnamese general cargo ship sank off the coast of Southeast Asia. The ship, called Hung Phat 89, is owned by Vietnam's Thai Duong Marine Transport.

Singapore's Maritime and Ports Authority (MPA) said its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) received a distress call from the 3,069 DWT general cargo ship Hung Phat 89 around 4 p.m. local time on March 10.

When the distress call was received, the Vietnamese-flagged freighter was located in Singapore Maritime Search and Rescue Region, about 380 nautical miles east of Toutou, Vietnam.

"The Singapore MRCC immediately sent navigation broadcasts to nearby vessels to remain vigilant and report sightings of vessels in distress and notify the Vietnam MRCC," the MPA said.

At around 7pm on March 10, MRCC Vietnam informed Singapore authorities that all 11 crew members had been rescued from Hung Phat 89, which had sunk.
