Attention! Maersk stopped accepting reservations from the country

On March 7, local time, the Caribbean Port Service Terminal, the main wharf in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, had to announce the suspension of operation after being attacked by gang militants.

Haitian media reported on the 10th that the situation in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, was seriously out of control and the security situation was extremely tense.

As much as 80 percent of Port-au-Prince's territory is under gang control, the United States has begun procedures to evacuate some of its embassy staff and tighten security at the embassy. The German ambassador to Haiti has also left Haiti for the neighboring Dominican Republic.

On March 11th, Maersk official website issued an important announcement. In view of the extremely unstable situation in Haiti, the company decided to suspend the booking service to and from Haiti until further notice.

In order to protect the interests of customers, Maersk advises customers to consider other alternatives, including changing the destination of shipments. At the same time, Maersk also reminds customers that in view of the current chaotic situation in Haiti, they should fully consider the potential risks and extra costs that goods may face.

In the past few weeks, civil unrest in Haiti has continued to ferment, which has seriously affected the import and export business of Port-au-Prince. It is difficult for customers to enter the port to unload or pick up containers, which has hindered business.
