British Chamber of Commerce: 55% of exporters are affected by the Red Sea crisis!

Recently, the British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) released a report showing that 55% of the exporters surveyed said that their export business was affected by the Red Sea shipping crisis. 53% of British manufacturing enterprises and B2C service industries were affected.

This impact is mainly manifested in the following two aspects. First, the transportation cost has increased greatly, and the ship leasing cost has increased by 300% due to the shipping crisis. Second, the supply time has been lengthened, which is 3-4 weeks longer than the previous normal state. In addition, the cash flow and inventory replenishment of enterprises have also been affected.

William Bain, head of trade policy at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), pointed out that the longer the current situation in the Red Sea lasts, the more obvious the impact on the British economy and society may be. The Red Sea crisis will further push up the inflationary pressure in Britain.

Bain further noted:"Certain sectors of the economy are clearly more vulnerable than others. But it has been a difficult time for businesses due to the government's recent introduction of new customs checks and procedures for imported goods, which have also increased costs and delays.

He said,"We call for the establishment of an export committee to improve the UK's trade strategy and review the effectiveness of government export support funds. Overseas trade is vital to our economic growth. We must do our best to help enterprises tide over the difficulties, and then focus on expanding exports in the future."
