MSC container ship was attacked and caught fire

According to the latest news from CCTV News, on March 4, local time, Yahya Salea, a military spokesman of Houthi armed forces in Yemen, issued a statement saying that Houthi armed forces fired several rockets at a ship "MSC SKY" sailing in the Arabian Sea that day and hit the target. Houthi armed forces said that the ship was related to Israel.

Yahya Sariah said Houthi also carried out missile and drone attacks on several US warships in the Red Sea. The British Maritime Trade Operations Office also said that a ship located 91 nautical miles southeast of Aden, Yemen, was attacked, and the hull of the ship was damaged by two explosions during the attack. No casualties have been reported.

According to foreign media reports, the attacked ship was MSC container ship "MSC Sky II". In the latest news, UKMTO first said that the fire had been extinguished, and the ship had left the area and was heading for the next port of call.

It is reported that the container ship "MSC Sky II", built in 1999, with a capacity of 2,169 TEU, flying the flag of Liberia. The ship had earlier called Nansha, Shekou and other ports in China.

MSC ships have been targeted multiple times since Houthi operations began last year. Houthi militants attacked MSC Palatium III with ballistic missiles in mid-December; About 10 days later, MSC United VIII was attacked in the Red Sea; MSC Silver II was targeted last month. None of these previous attacks were successful despite the Houthi causing considerable damage to other shipowners' ships.
