The union of international air transport companies announced a strike

Argentina's aviation unions announced a 24-hour strike Wednesday over wage increases, affecting more than 24,000 scheduled travelers. Argentine Airlines has cancelled 331 domestic and international flights, with operating losses of about $2 million.

The union clash began last week. Argentine airlines and ground service company Intercargo had proposed a 12 percent pay rise, but three aviation unions said it was simply not enough. Representatives of the APLA, APA and UPSA demanded that pay rises exceed inflation, or at least 70 percent.

Although the strike involved Air Argentina personnel, it also involved employees of Intercargo, which provides ground handling services for other airlines.

According to media reports, Ezeiza and Aeroparque will remain open on the same day, but the operation of branches depends on the availability of each airline and its employees.

Air Argentina said through a notice that all terminal offices would be closed on the day of the strike. "Passengers are requested not to travel to the airport or branch office on the same day because there is no reception from on-site staff."
