Houston Port's container volume hit a record high in January
In January 2024, the total container volume of Houston Port reached 332,961 TEUs, an increase of 4% compared with the same period last year, which is the highest ever recorded by the port facility.
Houston is an artificial port and is currently the largest oil and wheat export port in the United States. Although the docks of the port were originally mainly within the urban area of Houston, the port has now expanded to include facilities in several communities in the surrounding area.
Houston Port is located in the center of the Gulf Coast of the United States. Because of its superior geographical position, Houston Port will soon become the gateway and destination port for the import and export of goods in the western and central western regions of the United States. And the weather in Houston is very good, the climate is mild, the rainfall is moderate, and it rarely encounters destructive hurricanes, so the import and export trade of Houston Port has been relatively prosperous.
The port said container imports at Houston Port rose 3 percent in January to 154,493 TEUs. That was mainly due to strong growth in imports from China ahead of the Lunar New Year. Loading exports also rose significantly, up 9 percent from the same period last year to 124,137 TEUs. That set a new record for loading exports at Houston Port in January!
While container volumes soared, gross tonnage at all terminals at Houston Port fell 6% in January to a total of 4,187,541 tonnes. Steel production, in particular, fell sharply, with a 46% year-on-year decline in January. On top of that, freight volume at Houston Port's two container terminals fell 4% year-on-year in 2023 compared to 2022, handling a total of 3.8 million TEU throughout the year.
休斯顿港1月份集装箱量创历史新高

该港口称，1月份休斯顿港的集装箱进口量为154493标准箱，增长3%。这主要是由于农历新年前从中国进口的强劲增长。装货出口量也大幅增长，比去年同期增长9%，达到124137标准箱。这创下了休斯顿港1月份装载出口的新纪录！
