FedEx spends 1.3 billion dirhams to build Middle East processing center
Recently, FedEx announced that it will build a state-of-the-art hub at Dubai World Center (DWC) Airport to expand its business scope in the Middle East, Indian subcontinent and Africa (MEISA).
It is reported that the long-term investment of the regional center exceeds 350 million US dollars (about 1.3 billion dirhams). The new facility covers an area of 57,000 square meters and has the most advanced technology, including automatic sorting system and high-speed X-ray machine, which can improve the efficiency, accuracy and safety of package handling.
In addition, the 170-square-meter refrigerated area can meet the needs of various temperature-sensitive goods. The hub also has a fully automatic ground fleet and charging stations for operating vehicles and employee vehicles, which is in line with FedEx's goal of achieving carbon-neutral operation by 2024.
"The establishment of a new hub in the UAE is a strategic move that can significantly enhance our influence in the MEISA region. Since the UAE is currently ranked in the top 5 in the global entrepot business, our regional center not only affects the region, but also is an important part of the global aviation network covering more than 220 countries and regions," said a FedEx spokesman.
FedEx has always focused on investing in the Middle East. Last July, FedEx Express launched a new mobile shipping solution, FedEx Ship Manager Lite, in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait, which allows customers to prepare packages more flexibly without filling out paper air waybills and printing shipping labels and commercial invoices. These initiatives will further enhance FedEx's position in the market.
