DHL International Express employees are going on strike again!
DHL Aviation UK faces strike action again as its staff at East Midlands Airport plan to stop work for a week next month in a move that could disrupt air cargo operations.
The 180 union members will go on strike from Friday, Feb. 9, until Monday, Feb. 19. The employees typically take on ramp duties, providing aircraft operations and supervising the airport's towers.
A spokesman for DHL Airways UK said:"We are disappointed that Unite and its members voted in favour of industrial action to operate the East Midlands airport. The decision was made by a small group of DHL British Airways staff and negotiations continue to resolve the issue. We have contingency plans in place to ensure good service to our customers."
Unite said workers rejected demands for a 9.8 percent pay rise and said the proposal amounted to a pay cut because of inflation. "The strike will not only affect DHL Airlines," Unite said. "The logistics giant manages several cargo fleets at the airport, including Emirates, MNG Airlines, Aerologic and f1, and this industrial action will inevitably wreak havoc on those companies."
Melanie Todner, an Unite regional official, said:"The strike action will inevitably cause serious damage to the whole East Midlands airport, but this controversy is entirely caused by DHL Airlines itself." Its salary proposal is a blow. Our members are determined to fight together until they get a fair salary increase. "
