The Red Sea crisis will cause a delay of 10-15 days in Barcelona port


luis Salvado, the head of the Spanish port of Barcelona, told reporters the ships were delayed by 10 to 15 days to call at the port of Barcelona because they had to bypass Africa to avoid a possible attack in the Red Sea.


He said the delays affected ships transporting a variety of products, including liquefied natural gas. Barcelona is one of Spain's largest liquefied natural gas terminals. The delays in the western Mediterranean are shorter because the ports are closer to bypass routes in Africa.


He added:"This has a great impact on ports in the eastern Mediterranean, while ports in the western Mediterranean like ours are less affected."


Some shipping companies have suspended shipments on Red Sea routes to avoid attacks by Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen, which mainly target container ships passing through the Red Sea.


Many tankers are still using the route, but qatarenenergy, the world's second-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas, has stopped allowing tankers through the Red Sea, citing safety concerns.
