African ports are congested, and goods are delayed for 20 days!

Due to the Red Sea crisis, shipping companies have chosen to bypass the southern tip of Africa. However, because the infrastructure of many African ports is difficult to meet the sudden increase in shipping demand, some ports have experienced congestion.

The Red Sea route accounts for about 10 percent of global seaborne traffic. Between 14,000 and 21,000 container ships are forecast to pass through South African waters in the future, and experts fear the current shipping situation will pose significant challenges for South African ports.

Ian Rosario, director of South Africa operations for MSC, said Durban port is so crowded for container ships that our own ships can't even dock. He stressed that the congestion is so serious that it takes about 20 days to wait.

Replenishment by bypassing ships and a sharp increase in fuel supply demand have also become concerns. The local port authority is making every effort to ensure that ships enter and dock.

It is reported that the route for ships to bypass Africa is 10,000 kilometers longer than that through the Red Sea, and it takes shipping companies an extra 14 days to bypass. This not only increases the cost of shipping companies, but also transfers the related costs to freight rates and consumers.
