Shein, Shopee and AliExpress goods cannot be cleared and passed through customs

According to foreign media reports, due to the strike of tax inspectors from the Brazilian Federal Tax Bureau, the import and export goods of cross-border e-commerce platforms such as Shein, Shopee and AliExpress cannot be cleared and passed normally.

During the five-day strike, which starts on January 22 and ends on January 26, only perishable goods, fresh goods, dangerous goods, medicines and foodstuffs will be cleared and all other goods will be temporarily detained.

According to the report, the tax inspectors' strike is linked to an agreement reached by the federal government in 2016. According to the agreement, tax inspectors of the IRS will receive an efficiency bonus of up to 3,000 reais per month. In addition to their normal salary, they will also receive bonuses based on the amount of goods cleared.

Flavio Prado, vice president of Santos Trade Union Center, said the problem lies in the 2024 budget. Finance Minister Fernando Haddad issued a decree providing for the bonus of 2.4 billion reais, but this decree was not implemented, and the government only invested 700 million reais in the 2024 budget.

There are no specific figures on the amount of goods the strike will affect or the damage to importers and exporters. Prado estimates that 6,500 import declarations and 4,000 export declarations will not be released at Santos port.

However, there is no doubt that the strike at the port will prevent the import and export goods of e-commerce from passing smoothly and on time, which will cause serious losses to platforms such as Shein, Shopee and AliExpress and their sellers.

Shein、Shopee和AliExpress货物无法清关通行

       关于罢工将影响的货物数量或对进出口商造成的损失，目前还没有具体数字。普拉多估计，桑托斯港将有6500份进口报关单和4000份出口报关单无法放行。

       但毫无疑问的是，港口的罢工导致电商进出口货物无法顺利按时通行，将对Shein、Shopee和AliExpress等平台及其卖家造成严重的损失。
