The throughput of the largest container port in the United States plummeted in 2023! 

It is reported that the container throughput of Los Angeles Port in 2023 was 8,634,497 TEUs, down 13% year-on-year. Not only has it fallen sharply for two consecutive years, but the throughput has been lower than the pre-epidemic level (2019).

Port of Los Angeles (LA) is located in the southwestern United States, is the largest container port in the United States. It is one of the bridgeheads of the North American continent, the western bridgehead of the Santa Fe Railway, the main east-west trunk line across the United States, and the bridgehead of the eastern Atlantic coast is Philadelphia.

While the throughput of Los Angeles Port plummeted, Long Beach Port, another major port in the West of the United States, also grew very slowly compared with that before the epidemic. In 2023, Long Beach Port completed container throughput of 8,018,668 TEUs, a year-on-year decrease of 12.2%, an increase of 5.07% compared with that before the epidemic, and a compound annual growth rate of only 1.24%.

Long Beach, is the second busiest container port in the United States. Long Beach is a major port for U.S.-Asia trade, mainly with China, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, Mexico and Indonesia.

In addition to the decline in throughput of American ports, it is worth mentioning that the latest data released by Descartes Datamyne, an American research company, shows that in 2023, the shipping container transport volume from Asia to the United States was 17.5085 million TEUs, a year-on-year decrease of 11%, and China, which has the largest share, decreased by 13% year-on-year.

       据悉，洛杉矶港2023年完成集装箱吞吐量863.4497万标箱，同比暴跌13%。不仅连续两年大幅下跌，而且吞吐量已经低于疫情前（2019年）水平。

       洛杉矶港(Port of Los Angeles，简称LA)位于美国西南部，是美国第一大集装箱港。它是北美大陆桥头堡之一，是横贯美国东西向的主要干线圣菲铁路的西部桥头堡，东部大西洋岸的桥头堡为费城。

       在洛杉矶港吞吐量出现暴跌的同时，美西另一大港口—长滩港，它相比疫情前的增长也非常缓慢。长滩港2023年完成集装箱吞吐量801.8668万标箱，同比减少12.2%，相比疫情前增长5.07%，复合年均增长率仅1.24%。

       长滩港(Long Beach，简称LB)又称长堤港，是美国第二大最繁忙的集装箱海港。长滩港是美国-亚洲贸易的主要港口，主要贸易对象为中国、日本、中国香港、韩国、泰国、墨西哥及印度尼西亚等。
