It increased by 25.7% within one week. When will the freight rate be alleviated

With the rapid warming of the Red Sea crisis, the international shipping freight rate has risen obviously, which has caused the first impact on Asia-Europe routes.

Average freight rates for 40-foot cabinets are reported to have climbed to $4,000-$5,000, a 1.5-fold increase over the base rate. Meanwhile, the weekly increase for 20-foot cabinets on Middle East routes has also reached 25.7 percent.

This sudden increase in freight rates has brought great pressure to those goods that are in urgent need of shipment and high added value before the Lunar New Year.

In response to this challenge, some shippers are considering switching shipping to land-sea or air-sea. Air freight prices from China to Northern Europe started to climb by about 10 percent last week, according to freight forwarding industry insiders, while freight rates on China-Europe railways also increased by about $500.

According to industry insiders, if freight rates continue to rise, shippers are bound to pass on high transportation costs to end consumers, which may further push up inflation.
