Return to the Red Sea? Maersk Announces Readiness to Resume Red Sea Shipping Business

Recently, the "Red Sea Crisis", which has seriously affected the shipping industry, continues! Earlier, due to the attack on merchant ships in the Red Sea area, many shipping companies announced that they would suspend the service of the Red Sea route for safety reasons, and chose to bypass the Cape of Good Hope, and announced that they would adjust their services according to the real-time situation. At present, after the United States announced the launch of escort operations and some countries took further measures, some shipping companies changed their sailing plans again according to the latest situation.

On the evening of December 24th, Maersk announced that it was ready to resume the Red Sea shipping business, and is currently making relevant plans. However, the plan may change again, and the details will be announced in the next few days.

Maersk said it had received confirmation that Operation Prosperity Guardian (OPG), a previously announced multinational security initiative, was now in place and deployed to allow maritime trade through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

With the OPG initiative in place, Maersk is preparing to allow ships to resume their eastbound and westbound passage through the Red Sea. Plans are being made for the first ships to cross the border and to achieve this in operation as soon as possible. Maersk stresses that in this process, ensuring the safety of employees is crucial and their top priority as they deal with the situation in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden regions.

However, Maersk also said that although safety measures have been taken to enable our ships to pass through the Red Sea, the overall risk in this area has not been eliminated at this stage. Maersk will not hesitate to reassess the situation and start the diversion plan again when it deems it necessary to protect the safety of seafarers.
