Shipping companies reduce their cabins, and freight rates on European routes rise!
The latest Deluli World Container Composite Freight Index (WCI) rose by 6%, and the freight rates from Shanghai to Europe and Mediterranean both rose by 15%.
The global shipping industry's reduced cabin effect continues, and the off-season freight rate stabilizes. The revenue and profit of shipping companies in the fourth quarter will also be affected.
A number of freight forwarders said that European inventories are gradually being revised to a healthy level. In addition, shipping companies have taken out ships to reduce navigation and control cabins. In mid-December, some ships have been full of cabins, which has pushed up freight rates for two consecutive weeks.
Previously, many shipping companies raised the FAK rate, and the freight rate surged again, with an increase of 300~500 US dollars. A number of shipping companies, including Maersk, CMA and Hapag-Lloyd, issued a notice saying that they will greatly raise the FAK rate of routes from Asia to Northern Europe and Mediterranean from January 1,2024.
According to overseas industry media reports, other shipping companies will follow and raise FAK rates by a similar margin in the next few days, with a view to establishing a solid financial foundation at the beginning of 2024.
