Risks increase and freight rates rise! Global shipping is in tension! 


According to CCTV news, people in the international shipping industry and insurance industry disclosed that the number of attacks on merchant ships in some sea areas in the Middle East has increased recently, and many ships have to bypass to avoid risks, resulting in increased costs, and war risk premiums are expected to rise.


Reuters reported on November 29 that since the outbreak of a new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict on October 7, many merchant ships have been attacked in the waters of the Middle East, including the Red Sea, which has aroused the concern of the international shipping industry. 


On November 26th, a group tried to hijack a merchant ship in the Gulf of Aden. The US Department of Defense said on the 27th that although the attack looked like Houthi armed forces in Yemen, it was analyzed that it should be carried out by Somali pirates. The ownership of the ship is also related to Israeli businessmen. 


Israel's ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Co., Ltd., which is engaged in container shipping business, said on the 26th that it will temporarily adjust some routes involving the Red Sea and Arabian Sea waters, and adopt detour transportation to ensure safety, which means that the sailing time of some of its cargo ships will become longer.


Insurance analysts say war risk premiums are expected to rise for merchant ships that choose routes with higher security risks in the Middle East, especially those associated with Israel. As shipping companies adjust their routes to avoid attacks, not only will the transportation time be longer, but the freight rate may rise.

       11月26日,一伙人试图在亚丁湾劫持一船商船。美国国防部27日说,虽然这起袭击看起来像也门胡塞武装发动,但据分析应该是索马里海盗所为。这舰船的所有权也与以色列商人有关联。


       以色列从事集装箱航运业务的以星综合航运有限公司26日说,该公司将暂时调整涉及红海和阿拉伯海水域的部分航线,并采取绕路运输的方式以确保安全,这意味着旗下部分货船的航行时间会变长。


       保险业人士分析,对选择中东地区安全风险较高航线的商船,尤其是与以色列有关联的商船来说,战争险保费预计将上涨。随着航运公司为躲避袭击而航线调整,不仅“运输时间更长”,而且运价或将飘升。
