Recently, the collective bargaining conflict between Deutsche Bahn and GDL, a train drivers' union, has escalated continuously, and the two sides are getting farther and farther away from a common solution.



Collective bargaining is now focused on union demands that shift workers be cut from 38 to 35 hours a week without a pay cut. They argue that reduced working weeks will make rail jobs more attractive.


In addition to reducing working hours, GDL also requires employees to pay an extra 555 euros per month and an inflation compensation bonus. So far, the railway company has offered 32 months of salary increase of 11% and salary adjustment conditions of inflation compensation bonus.


GDL also wants to expand the association's influence over the overall operation of railways and negotiate collective agreements in the field of railway infrastructure. Deutsche Bahn refused this request because it thought it lacked the representative ability.


GDL on Friday announced the breakdown of a second round of collective pay talks with Deutsche Bahn, while announcing a new warning strike against Deutsche Bahn.

A vote by GDL union members on an indefinite strike is still underway; The results are expected by the end of December. If 75 percent of voters agree to an indefinite strike, the GDL could also use the tool to pressure in collective bargaining disputes.

       GDL工会会员针对无限期罢工的投票仍在进行中;预计12月底公布结果。如果75%的投票者同意无限期罢工,GDL也可以在集体谈判纠纷中使用这一手段施压。
