Maersk: Lay off 200 people! Close the Syrian business!
According to foreign media, Maersk is currently in a new round of major layoffs, as part of cost-cutting measures, has begun to lay off employees at its headquarters. The group's Copenhagen headquarters will lay off about 200 people.
Due to the deteriorating prospects of the shipping market, Maersk will continue to implement these measures to reduce the number of employees from 110,000 at the beginning of 2023 to less than 100,000, so as to alleviate the impact of the market environment.
Recently, Maersk official website announced: After careful consideration and comprehensive evaluation of available options, it has decided to officially end its business in Syria from December 1,2023. This means that it will no longer provide cargo transportation to and from any destination in Syria.
Therefore, from December 1, booking to and from Syria will no longer be accepted, and Maersk ships will no longer call at Syrian ports. On November 28, the last Maersk ship to call at Syria will be the Maersk Narmada (346E/347W).
