International Business Newsletter-TikTok Shop may return to Indonesia

TikTok Shop may return to Indonesia

The Indonesian site of TikTok Shop has been shut down for more than a month, and there is no doubt that TikTok is still trying to return.

Recently, TikTok has held talks with a number of local Indonesian e-commerce companies including Tokopedia, Bukalapak and Blibl, hoping to find a solution to restart TikTok's e-commerce business in Indonesia.

Zhou Shouzi, CEO of TikTok, also sent a letter to Indonesian President Joko Widodo, requesting to meet with him to further discuss issues related to TikTok's e-commerce business in Indonesia after the new regulations. While actively negotiating, TikTok seems to be considering following Meta's footsteps and applying for an e-commerce license from the Indonesian government.

While the Indonesian government has decided to ban TikTok from operating in Indonesia, other Southeast Asian countries have not taken similar measures to stop operations. Instead, they are stepping up deeper cooperation with TikTok to promote the development of e-commerce.

Other countries in Southeast Asia have increased their cooperation with TikTok because they see great potential for e-commerce. By cooperating with social media platforms such as TikTok, these countries can better supervise the market, and at the same time, consumers can get more choices and convenience.

TikTok Shop
