Net profit dropped by 96%, and HMM employees were worried about layoffs! 

South Korean ocean shipping company HMM announced its third-quarter results. In the third quarter, HMM achieved revenue of 1.6 billion US dollars, down 58% year-on-year; The operating profit is 57 million US dollars and the profit rate is 3.6%; Net profit was $72 million, with a profit margin of 4.5%. 

In the first three quarters of 2023, HMM's operating income was about 4.78 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 58%; Operating profit was about 410 million US dollars, down 94% year-on-year; Net profit was about US $530 million, down 92% year-on-year. 

After Maersk confirmed it would cut 10,000 jobs following an operating loss in the third quarter, HMM employees demonstrated outside the Industrial Bank building in Seoul amid fears that HMM would also cut jobs.

HMM said that in order to improve the competitiveness of the company in the face of market turmoil and uncertain prospects, it will focus on taking various cost-cutting measures and improving operational efficiency.

       此前，在第三季度出现营运亏损后，马士基确认将裁员至1万人。HMM员工得知马士基裁员消息后，由于担心HMM会裁员，在首尔产业银行大楼外进行了示威。

       HMM表示，在市场动荡和前景不确定的情况下，为了提高公司的竞争力，将重点采取各种削减成本的措施，并提高运营效率。
