Clarkson: Super-large ships may disappear from Panama Canal 


From next year, the Panama Canal may no longer have large oil tankers passing through, and super-large oil tankers may also be squeezed out of this transoceanic waterway, which will bring great changes to the world seaborne natural gas and oil trade mode.


Previously, the canal could handle up to 40 ships crossing the border every day. This year, it was reduced due to early dry, and canal managers were forced to reduce the maximum draft limit of ships passing through the waterway's larger new Panama lock by nearly 2 meters. 


The Clarksons Research report predicts:"Given the current booking system, it is likely that no super-large ships will be able to cross through the new locks from next year, while the number of ships crossing through the old locks will be significantly reduced.


The report suggests significant extra tonnage miles of crossings could occur as ships switch to sailing around the Cape of Good Hope or transit through Suez. 


The Suez Canal'S share of US Gulf shipments to Asia rose to 83 percent in October from 23 percent a year earlier, according to analysis by S&P Global.

       标准普尔全球(S&P Global)的分析显示,10月份,苏伊士运河在美国海湾地区对亚洲的出货量中所占份额已从去年同期的23%升至83%。
