The capacity drops, and the ship picks shallow! Shipping companies charge "dry morning fee"
Recently, the Amazon region of Brazil suffered a severe dry morning, and the water level of many rivers hit a record low, which hindered logistics.
As of the 20th, another major tributary of the Amazon River, the Negro River water level has dropped to 13. 19 meters, continue to set a new record for more than 120 years. According to the local shipping organization observation, the Negro River water level is still falling rapidly, a day can drop more than 10 centimeters to 30 centimeters.
Due to the low water level, boats have been shallow in the Negro River recently. Experts predict that it may take about two months of abundant rainfall before the water level of Negro River can rise to normal navigation level.
Due to the river water level drop, 90% of the large cargo ships on the Amazon River can't sail at full capacity, and the capacity loss is about 50%. Large ships are limited, and some of the most urgent materials can only be transported by loading on small ships, and the logistics speed is also affected. The voyage that used to be three to four days now takes about 10 days.
About two weeks ago, many shipping companies began to charge a "dry morning fee", which is at least 3,000 reais (about 4,330 yuan) per container, but now this fee has risen to about 10,000 reais (about 14,400 yuan). According to industry insiders, the freight rate of shipping in Amazon region has generally increased by 25% to 50% recently.
